The last time Randy Weaver took to the Green Valley Speedway, for a Southern Regional Racing Series, presented by PPM Racing Products event, he missed the $10,000 top prize, by two turns of the big half-mile, getting together with Wendell Wallace, and letting eventual winner Byron MIchael by, for the win.
This trip to Glencoe, AL would be different for the "Dream". He started by taking the StarGrafix Pole Award, in group qualifying, with Brasstown, NC's Ray Cook, putting his Arvil Cook Investments' Mastersbilt on the front row, with Weaver.
Crossville, TN's Weaver, went to the lead, as the green flag flew. His Hicks & Ingle GRT was strong, as he and Cook put on a show for the fans, with Cook moving in front of Weaver, just as the caution flew at lap fourteen. Piedmont, AL's Ryan Law slowed out of turn four, putting the field under yellow. The last completed lap, lap thirteen, had Weaver leading. That's the way they would go back to green, as he and Cook renewed their battle. They jockeyed through lapped traffic, getting side-by-side on several occasions. Ball Play, AL's T.J. Alford, Flat Rock, AL's Robert Gant, and Florence, AL's Byron Michael, were having a great battle of their own, for third,
Another driver on the move, was Chattanooga's Ronnie Johnson, who started fifteenth, and was in the mix for fourth by lap thirty-five. By lap forty, he was trying to run down Michael, for third. He would settle for fourth.
The race came down to Cook, trying to get by Weaver, once again in heavy traffic. this time, Weaver would not be denied, narrowly edging Cook at the line, as the fans stood, to get a closer look. Michael was third. with Johnson fourth. Alford took fifth. Weaver took home $5000 for his efforts.
